Gavin's Story

Gavin was born in 2005 along with his twin brother at 26 weeks.  He only
weighed 2 pounds and has been a fighter since day 1!  He hit his milestones
a little late, but was mostly caught up by the time he was 3.  In 2010,
Gavin had 2 baby sisters born and we were a big, happy family!

In 2011, Gavin started having horrible headaches and vomiting spells.  He
had gone to several doctors that said it was migraines.  He was sick for
almost 6 months before he was diagnosed.  One day he had come inside from
playing and went to his room to rest.  He had thrown up in his room and when
asked why he didn't get up to go to the bathroom, he said he couldn't move
his body.  We immediately brought him to the emergency room where they did a
CT scan and diagnosed him with a brain tumor.  He had his first surgery a
few days later and the MRI showed they got it all.  Almost a year to the day
later, he started having headaches again.  MRI confirmed that the tumor was
growing back, so surgery was scheduled and after that, he was referred to
St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.  Through St. Judes, he had Proton Beam
Radiation in Jacksonville, Florida and was away from home for a total of 11
weeks.

Gavin now continues to go to St. Jude's every 3 months for now and is
followed by an endocrinologist near home.  He still has anxiety about his
tumor and is still playing catch up at school since he missed so much of it
over the past 2 years.  Gavin loves life and tries to make the best out of
everything.
