Gracie's Story

Gracie is a former premature baby, born 29 weeks, who always had trouble eating.
It took her a very long time to gain weight, and had a very hard time
staying hydrated due to her unwillingness to orally eat.  Finally, after
attempting to help her with feeding therapy, and several hospital stays due
to dehydration and hypoglycemia, we decided to have a G tube placed when she
was 16 months old.

She was unable to tolerate feeds well, and though she finally gained weight
and stayed hydrated, she continued to have problems.  She was chronically
constipated, and was in the hospital many times for bowl obstructions and
clean outs. She finally became diagnosed with Gastroparesis at age 4, and we
switched to a GJ tube.   The J feeds work miracles!!!  She is no longer on
the six medications she needed daily to control her symptoms, she is no
longer nauseated all the time, and has regular bowel movements!

But sadly, GJ tubes don't want to stay in place.   It has pulled out of
place several times since placement, and we have been inpatient several
times since January – and our last admission was mid-March.

"Thank You"

Gracie received her quilt today, and she LOVES IT! I took several pictures ... a few of her excitement of opening the package, a couple happily laying down with it afterwards, and two of her tonight, sleeping under the beautiful quilt.
Thank you so very much!!!! We will be bringing it with us when she's inpatient as often as we can.
She has been home this week, after two weeks of a scary inpatient stay. She's on some heavy duty IV antibiotics, and will see her infectious disease doctor on Tuesday to see how she's doing.
Again thank you so very much for the beautiful quilt!!!! Please tell everyone that helped make it, that we are so very grateful!
