Joshua's Story

Josh has many diagnoses. At 3 weeks it was determined he had hypoglottic stenosis (an airway that is only 25% as large as it should be and is easily blocked) and GERD (acid reflux disease). At 9 months old there was a diagnosis of hypotonia (weak muscles). That led to constantly bouncing back to physical therapy each time a milestone was needed to be met. At 18 months he was diagnosed with sensory processing disorder (a condition very closely related to autism). That lead to occupational therapy and speech therapy. At 3 years further testing found that he has an intellectual disability (commonly known as mental retardation) and several developmental delays.

In June 2015 Josh was diagnosed with high functioning autism spectrum disorder. On July 24th he received the diagnosis of epilepsy. We are working toward getting Josh a service dog that will be trained to assist with both of these issues. It will hopefully detect seizures early so we can protect him from injury, help keep him calm and prevent his wandering away or alert us if that happens.
