Joslyn's Story

After an uneventful 35 weeks of pregnancy, my previous csection scar had ruptured spontaneously during my sleep. By the time we arrived at the hospital and my emergency csection was performed, Joslyn had lost an excessive amount of oxygen. She was found expelled from my uterus, stillborn and had to be resuscitated. She suffered from immediate seizures and was rushed to a local Children's hospital for further treatment.

She was given a very grim outlook after an MRI at a week old revealed major brain damage to her entire brain. We were told that if she were to make it, she would severely disabled and completely dependent on medical equipment. She had to be ventilated until she could show she could breathe on her own. She shined when they took the tube out. She was breathing on her own in no time. We were able to bring her home aftet a long 27 day NICU stay. She worked very hard to learn to drink from a bottle and to deal with her older brother.

With her diagnosis of Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy at birth, she was placed in therapies quite quickly. She was diagnosisd with severe Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy at 8 months and Infantile Spasms (a type of seizure disorder) at 10 months. Both were set backs but, she proves her strength every day. Attending physical and occupational therapy twice weekly, along with Botox injections to help with her tone, medications and many specialists to keep everything together. She keeps a beautiful, fearless smile on her face
