Quinn's Story
Quinn was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma when he was just
20 months old. There was a soft tissue tumor the size of a cantaloupe in his abdomen.
He had several surgeries, nearly a year of chemo and six weeks of radiation.
In the end, he was cancer free and thriving!
Quinn is now eleven. We went to see his pediatrician early in January, because
he was complaining of pain in his leg and had developed a limp. His
pediatrician ordered an x-ray, which showed abnormal bone growth in his
pelvis. He was sent to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco for
more testing, exams and to biopsy the bone. He was then diagnosed with
osteosarcoma - a type of bone cancer. Unfortunately for Quinn, his
osteosarcoma is a secondary malignancy, directly caused by the radiation he
received in treatment the first time he had cancer.
Upon diagnosis, a port was placed, and Quinn started treatment immediately.
He has a very grueling and aggressive treatment plan ahead of him with a lot
of time being spent at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. But true to character,
Quinn is staying positive and optimistic! He is an inspiration to all of
us!
